7 Easy Freezer Meals | QUICK AND SIMPLE MAKE AHEAD DINNERS! | CASSEROLES AND CROCKPOT

32 weeks of menu planning! That’s 224 different dinner ideas for 2021!

Hello! We talked about lunch plans today. 32 days! I love posting them all the time and this is an excellent article I always read every year. Each year the process is similar but I add a few healthy meals that I loved the previous year and remove those I didn’t like making. I’ve cited this piece about 10 million times over the years. I find dinner planning hard. I’ve stated often that we need to prepare 3 meals a day in the perfect week.

And now 7 recipes for the week ahead!

What is the best part about this simple sheet plate recipe? This is usually a vegan meal containing vegetables that roast all in one plate and includes plenty of healthy vegetables and chickpeas for plant proteins. Bring it into the oven while cooking quinoa or rice. Dinner time wins! Meal preparation tip for weekdays. Chop all veggies before cooking or roast all of them ahead and roast at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. If you are serving with cashews, mix the ingredients well. Cashews can soak for around one hour or you can soak overnight. You could try some sorbet instead.

What are the top 10 meals?

To try to figure this out I asked some friends, “What’s your favorite meal?”

I didn’t give them any criteria. I just assumed they would know what sort of question I was asking. And many of them did: they named meals they actually had. Others gave me a look like, “What kind of question is that?” and said things like “Breakfast!” or “Chocolate!” or “A hot fudge sundae!”

The latter seemed not to understand the question. To figure out whether they were right and I was wrong, or vice versa, I tried asking them other kinds of questions:

“What do you wish you could eat?” – This turned out to be more helpful. It allowed people to recognize that their favorite meal might not be something they’d ever actually eaten. It also focused them on the definitive rather than exemplary instances of meals: it’s not just any breakfast, but the kind of breakfast you could only get at the Greasy Spoon; not just any chocolate, but the dark chocolate truffles from John & Peter’s; not just any ice cream sundae, but the one with homemade whipped cream and hot fudge made from fair-trade organic cac

Top 10 meals

1. Nasi Lemak

2. Char Kuey Teow

3. Hainanese Chicken Rice

4. Roti Canai

5. Rendang

6. Laksa

7. Rojak

8. Mee Goreng Mamak (Mamak-Style Fried Noodles)

9. Satay

10. Curry Laksa

In my experience, the most effective way to do this is to write a list of ten meals you’ve had in your life. This may seem like a strange exercise, but it forces you to be concise, think about the “why” behind each meal, and will let your personality shine through.

What is the easiest thing to cook for dinner?

When you are cooking for yourself, what is the easiest thing to cook for dinner?

A hamburger.

When you are cooking for two, what is the easiest thing to cook for dinner?

A hamburger.

When you are cooking for a family, what is the easiest thing to cook for dinner?

A hamburger.

You can make a hamburger in a few minutes by throwing ground beef on a pan and sprinkling it with salt and pepper. The only way to make it more convenient would be to have someone else cook it for you.

Now imagine that instead of a hamburger, you wanted to make some kind of elaborate dishes like Chicken Cordon Bleu or Beef Wellington or Osso Buco or Paella. You could do it by getting every ingredient separately and following every instruction in the recipe precisely. But that would be very inconvenient. To make it convenient, you would have to get all the ingredients together ahead of time and lay them out in order. And then do that again at dinnertime. And then clean up afterward.

This is why recipes don’t just give instructions like “add rice” or “stir well.” They tell you where things go in the sequence, so you can assemble everything beforehand and…

The answer to this question is probably a version of “whatever you can cook.” But I find that advice unhelpful when I’m struggling to figure out what to make for dinner.

For example, someone might say, “Well, my easy go-to dish is pasta with jarred sauce. I just boil the water and heat up the sauce while the pasta is cooking.”

What are some new foods to try?

There is a lot of new food to try! Here are some:

Guacamole, sushi, and kombucha tea.

Or maybe something more exotic like:

Youtiao, ema datshi, and ma-la hot pot.

Last year I went looking for new food to try and ended up trying three.

The first was sashimi. I had liked sushi, so it seemed worth a try. But I didn’t realize how different it would be. Sushi is fish and rice; sashimi is just fish. The closest thing in western cuisine might be carpaccio: raw meat sliced thin, with nothing else.

It’s not bad, but it’s not what I was expecting. If you like carpaccio you’ll probably like it, but if all you know about is sushi, you might want to stick to that for a while before trying sashimi.

Then there was an old food I’d never tried: oysters. These were actually better than I’d expected when I ordered them–again because they’re more like carpaccio than the cooked oysters or oyster stuffing or oyster stew or oyster sauces or oyster dishes of various other sorts that are more common in the US.

Finally, there was a new kind of bread: Bread made from sprouted grains rather than flour. Ezekiel bread is the most popular sort: made from several types of sprouted grain, with no flour added at any point. It’s good, though

I am not sure what foods I want to try. But the first step is probably looking at some recipes and seeing which ones sound good.

I have tried many foods, such as pizza, cheeseburgers, and spaghetti. I do not particularly like pizza or spaghetti though. I think they are too greasy. I do like cheeseburgers a lot. They are my favorite food.

What dishes are better the next day?

For example, I made some macaroni and cheese last night to eat tonight. I might be tempted to just heat it up in the microwave. But it’s probably better if I put it in a frying pan with a little butter and browned it for two or three minutes before eating it. It will be more flavorful, and the texture of the noodles will be better: not quite so gluey and soft.

So what other dishes are better the next day?

I’m a big fan of making leftovers for lunch the next day. They’re usually better than what you could get at a restaurant, and they save time and money.

But not every dish is better the next day. Some are worse, and some (like salads) are completely inedible. How do you pick the good ones?

One rule is that if it’s normally served hot, it will probably be better reheated. So: stews, soups, curries, roast meats, casseroles. Generally, if it’s normally served hot and comes in its own sauce or juices, it will be better the next day.

Another rule is that dishes with meat or fish should not have been cooked more than a day before; anything meat-based should be eaten within 24 hours of being cooked. This is because bacteria grow fastest between 40F and 140F. So if you cook something today for lunch tomorrow, it needs to spend six hours or less at room temperature (including cooking time). If your dish has been in the fridge overnight, no problem; just heat it up until its internal temperature reaches 160F (use a thermometer), and serve immediately.
